Print Media Training Courses

Our print media training courses are tailored around you and the media you want to connect with, whether it’s the national press or the trade titles specific to your industry. Furthermore, if you are new to media relations and need an introduction or if you simply need to polish your skills our experienced team will design the media training around your requirements.

Course Content:
As mentioned, our print media courses are all specifically tailored. However as a guide, here's what we would cover in an introductory session:

The Theory:

An introduction to the print Media: The main news titles / What journalists want from you / The differences between general and business news / Understanding when a story is newsworthy
 
  • Preparing your approach: Refining your key messages / Researching the audience and journalist / Setting your agenda
  • During the interview: Bridging and other interview techniques / Body Language / Dos and Don’ts

The Interview Practice:
The interviews we conduct in our print media training sessions are testing, realistic and relevant. This is to ensure that, whatever sort of interview situation delegates face in the outside world, they will be prepared. Depending on your requirements, we will conduct a series of one or more of the following interviews:

Telephone / Face to Face / Down the line / Doorstep

Top tips for Media:

1.    Think about the audience you will be speaking to and tailor your story accordingly – readers of The Financial Times have very different expectations than readers of The Sun.

2.    Keep your key messages to three – more than this will leave your audience struggling to remember them all and you might find your story gets diluted.

3.    Think about your posture in interviews – keep your feet planted firmly on the ground and sit up right in your chair – positive body language will give you confidence and this will show to the viewers.

4.    If you get asked difficult questions, or start to get led away from your agenda, don’t be afraid to pull the interview back onto your messages – bridging is a great way to do this.

5.    Going into an interview, print or broadcast, and trying to ‘wing it’ is a huge and dangerous gamble, and one we wouldn’t ever advise. You should never undergo an interview unless you’ve; firstly been media trained and secondly, spoken to your comunications team and or done your own research to prepare.
