The 4 Cs of crisis handling

If your organisation faces a crisis there are few vital things to remember when dealing with the media:

 

1. Compassion – show concern for anyone affected, the situation will have had a negative impact on someone.

2. Communicate – keep people updated on what is happening, if there’s a news vacuum it could be filled with rumour or conjecture.

3. Control – show you are managing the situation and solving the problem, give people confidence that you are working on the issue.

4. Compensate – remember you will have to work hard to rebuild trust in your organisation, this will need to be done in various ways.
